AFG to Host Annual Charity Gala to Support Hospice and Palliative Home Care Program and Dzegvi Shelter Community

American Friends of Georgia (AFG) is holding Annual Charity Gala on April 1, 2023 at the Sheraton Grand Metechi Palace Hotel first time after Covid pandemic outbreak.

The goal of this Charity Gala is to support two of AFG’s most important projects—the Dzegvi Shelter Community and the Hospice and Palliative Home Care Program.

For the past few years, this celebration has been a wonderful, elegant event for our community, which helped us to support the neediest children and elderly. It has been made possible by generous sponsorship donations from corporations as well AmCham, Diplomatic missions, prominent Georgian artists and musicians.

The Event Committee is putting together an extraordinary program for the evening with a cocktail reception, dinner, live auction, raffle prizes, music, dancing party and lots more surprises as always.

We hope to continue to restore a Tradition of Philanthropy in Georgia but we cannot do so without your continued support.

The Dzegvi Shelter Community near Tbilisi started as an orphanage for street children in 1995. It was AFG’s big success story with 120 former street children growing up to full productive lives. Since 2010, it has become a shelter for people who cannot live independently or have nowhere to go such as mentally ill, disabled, former street children, poor elderly or abandoned single mothers with young children. Today Dzegvi shelters more than 100 inhabitants. Thanks to generous donations and contributions of dear partners and friends of American Friends of Georgia reconstruction of Shelter was completed in the summer of 2019. New building changed quality of life of inhabitants of Dzegvi Community and enable them to shelter additional 60 vulnerable children and elderly in need. In addition, the reconstruction provided new space for rehabilitation programs and vocational trainings.

Peristsvaleba  Hospice and Home care program is the first Hospice in Georgia and the only free Hospice Nursing School and Home Care Program. The project beneficiaries annually more than 100 elderlies who need palliative home care. For many seriously ill patients, hospice and palliative care offers comfortable alternative to spending your final months in the impersonal environment of a hospital. Palliative medicine helps patients manage pain while hospice provides special care to improve quality of life for both the patient and their family. Seeking hospice and palliative home care isn’t about giving up hope or hastening death, but rather a way to get the most appropriate care in the last phase of life.
